**Textbook:** Milne's lecture notes: Algebraic Number Theory, which is available online here.

**Additional references:** P. Samuel's Algebraic theory of numbers and J. Neukirch's Algebraic Number Theory (Chapters I-II).

**Prerequisites:** Mathematics 4120A/B Field theory.

**Course outline:** The goal of the course is to cover the following basic topics:
rings of algebraic integers, Dedekind rings, class groups, the two finiteness theorems: finiteness of class numbers and Dirichlet's theorem on units, cyclotomic fields, the first case of Fermat's last theorem. Other topics will be included if time permits.
